The A-Series engine first became available in 1952 when installed in the Austin A30 but later came to prominence as the power plant for the Morris Minor. The engine was progressively developed, grabbing attention in 1959 for its performance potential when a revised version was launched in the Mini. Subsequently, considerable development took place, with significant increases in power, while the unit's flexibility made it an ideal and widely used engine for the tuner and motorsport enthusiast.
