Wheelspin & Smoking Tyres — A personal photographic record of motor racing in the 1950s and 1960s

by Keith Duerden and Robert Barker

From the time he first had a camera while still at school, it seemed inevitable that Keith Duerden would go on to a career in photography. Motor racing was just one of many subjects which caught his attention during this formative stage. As his career developed these early photographs, having served their purpose, were put on one side and forgotten for some fifty years. After a busy life as a professional photographer and prompted by friends and colleagues, retirement provided an opportunity to explore these long hidden away photographs.

Robert Barker has been interested in motor sport for over half a century. His early experiences at Goodwood led to his "Record of Motor Racing at Goodwood" which chronicles the history of the circuit. The research for that opus as well as his wider archive of motor racing history have been major contributions in the preparation of this book, a collaboration which came about from a chance meeting.
