Dinsdag 28 augustus jl werd bij Pon in Leusden het boek “Racing Team Holland - The History of the Dutch Racing Team” gepresenteerd. Een fraai boekwerk dat door Ron Wiedenhoff en Ed Heuvink werd samengesteld. Het prachtige boek beschrijft in het Engels de geschiedenis van het Racing Team Holland, dat door Mr. Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema (‘Soldaat van Oranje’) en Ben van Marken werd opgericht.

Vele oud race-gedienden waren bij de presentatie aanwezig, evenals natuurlijk AutoNet carbooks. Rob Wiedenhoff verwoordde tijdens een humoristische toespraak, in aanwezigheid van vele oud RTH-gedienden race-charme van de zestiger jaren Jhr. Gijs van Lennep die van Hans Hugenholtz jr, het eerste exemplaar in ontvangst mocht nemen en ook naar zijn racebelevenissen werd ademloos geluisterd. Humoristisch verhaalde Gijs, hoe men de race in het voorprogramma van de Duitse GP verloor, doordat een unibolt kapot ging en hoe Ben Pon een motor opblies; Teamorders die op Monza genegeerd werden. Veel van deze anekdotes zijn in dit prachtige boek terug te vinden.

'racing team holland The History Of The Dutch Racing Team' van auteur Rob Wiedenhoff in samenwerking met Ed Heuvink, is een uitgave van de Stichting Racing Team Holland waarvan Hans Hugenholtz voorzitter is. Het boek behandelt de roemrijke geschiedenis van het Racing Team Holland dat in 1963 werd opgericht door mr. Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema (‘Soldaat van Oranje’) en Ben van Marken. De eerste race van het team, dat in de beginjaren uitkwam met oranje (de officiële Nederlandse racekleur) gespoten raceauto’s, was de Grand Prix de Spa op 17 mei 1964. Ben Pon debuteerde voor het nieuwe nationale raceteam met een Porsche 904 Carrera GTS.

De initiatiefnemers koesterden hooggespannen verwachtingen en toonden met succes aan dat ook in Nederland voldoende talent aanwezig was om successen te kunnen behalen in het internationale autosport theater. Het Racing Team Holland werd een graag geziene gast op veel circuits en blonk uit door de technisch perfecte preparatie van de auto’s. Jong talent aanmoedigen was een van de doelstellingen; Gijs van Lennep is er een perfect voorbeeld van. Tot de vele coureurs onder RTH vlag behoren Ben Pon, Rob Slotemaker, Henk van Zalinge, Gijs en David van Lennep, Wim Loos, Hans Koster, Toine Hezemans, Jan Lammers, Arie Luyendijk, Huub Rothengatter en Cor Euser. 

Het luxe uitgegeven boek, in Engelse tekst, beschrijft uitvoerig de rijke historie van het team met zijn vele ups en downs, van de ‘Porsche periode’ (1964-1967), het racen van de innovatieve formule 3 Tecno-DAF met Variomatische transmissie (1968) via de Europese F3 titel van Lammers (1978) en de Formule Ford successen (begin jaren tachtig) naar de laatste fase. Daarin werd op initiatief van Hans Hugenholtz jr. vanaf 1987 voornamelijk internationaal deelgenomen aan races en rallies met historische automobielen.

The first race the team entered was the Grand Prix de Spa on May 17th, 1964. Ben Pon drove the orange – the official Dutch racing colour – Porsche 904 Carrera GTS.

The founders had high expectations and in the first year the team showed that there was ample racing talent in the Netherlands and that international successes could be obtained. Racing Team Holland was always warmly welcomed at many international race tracks and always arrived with well-prepared cars. One of the goals of the team was to promote young Dutch racing talent: the best example being Gijs van Lennep. Among the many drivers entered by RTH were Ben Pon, Rob Slotemaker, Henk van Zalinge, Gijs and David van Lennep, Wim Loos, Toine Hezemans, Hans Koster, Jan Lammers, Huub Rothengatter, Arie Luyendijk and Cor Euser.

From 1978 onwards, initated by John Hugenholtz, Racing Team Holland has on concentrated on historical events and GT racing.
